ABAP - JAVA - C# - ???
Hello Technical Peoples, Some questions that bother me as a sap techincal consultant or an abaper. for we technicians i feel that the growth in SAP is limited, its the functional guys who really grow. I dont think that knowing only abap will lead to positive growth in career, please give your views. in this regard, is it necessary to keep upgrading to all new technologies and concenttrate on ABAP only as far as work is concerned or switch to other technology on the first available oppurtunity ?What you people feel.
答案：DD,Your question is not related to technology . I think you should also consider what is your company's scope as far as your growth is concerned.First define yourself, what is career growth. Is it money or position or both?. Then think of your company, what is possible? See peoplestick to the same company ( provided it is medium range company )and becomes part of their IT department and try to become managersand try to deal with different number projects at the same time. Somepeople jump around new technologies for better billing rates.They getgood money but it is bit tough for them to become like a manager. Theyremain just as programmer only. I aggree that number hours you code is more in a project where youare developing whole application from the scratch as you might havedone in your previous projects in PB and VB unlike ready made application SAP , Oracle financials, CRMs or any other ready made applications. In the ready made applications we will have lot of customization work, still it will be less development time compared tothe projects which needs to be developed from the scratch.Concluding that you might need less number of managers in our area. Still thatdependes on the project size and your company size. However being in JAVA or C++ Is always advantage as they are genericlanguages and many ready made applications needs to be developed by using these languages. But how much extent you are going to capitalize that scope depends on your skill level and grasp on the businesssector( banking sector, automotive sector, utilities sector etc).And more over many people are out there fight with you in generic areas.saper
到思互圈子网站查看回答详情>>I just feel it is hard to secure a job just with ABAP. There are more requirements about a ABAP in the ad. today. For example, BW, BASIS, Configuration, Cross module support, BAPI, RFC, IDOC, ....... a lot lot. I am a certified ABAP with one and half year experience in ABAP, but that can't bring me a new job today. It's hard, really hard. I am changing my direction to position like PC programmer or Technical support. Hope to get a job

到思互圈子网站查看回答详情>>Learning new things is always advantage. The word is ,SAP is comingwith JAVA engine apart from the ABAP engine to interact with thecore R/3 application (or it is already there?). There are some projects which will have web interfaces and do some stuff on the R/3 or retrieve the data from the R/3 through the BAPIs. So people who knowsJAVA also can come and work in the R/3 implementations. I neverheard that kind of implementation which has R/3 and java engine coexist on the same server. Still ABAP is the core languagewhich is used in R/3 application development. So need for ABAP does notdie in the near future atleast coming four or five years. So many SAPimplementations are done and being done. Lot of upgrade projects willbe coming up down the line. Compare to any other areas ERP segmentis having better chances .unfortunately less billing rates for ABAP now a days. But opportunities are there and better than any other area.saper

If people want the job, they have to meet the requirement first. if not, they will not short-list you. saper, after reading your reply, i just feel that i am dreaming to secure a ABAP developer with just 1.5 year experience and a little ABAP certificate DD and you have had several year experiences in SAP. Thing will be easy for you guys. ......!!! anyway, I have spent all my saving on the ABAP consutlant course and i have no SAP system to prastice any more because i have to quit my job because of some personal reason. 3 months already. Sometimes, I feel I am a bit pity. It will be better if I spent the little saving on JAVA or C++ course. I believe that I can get more. Regretted !!007
